Maricopa residents gathered for food and fun Thursday at Maricopa’s second annual community Thanksgiving.

There was a multitude of dishes brought to the event. Everyone chipped in to the potluck, including event coordinator Councilman Leon Potter.

“I brought turkey and scalloped potatoes,” Potter said. “But, I can’t take credit for the cooking, it was my wife.”

The event at Maricopa Rotary Park brought the community together with fresh food, live music and even the work it took to hold the event.

“You have different people involved in different organizations or people who aren’t involved can get involved,” Potter said.

Organizations at Thursday’s potluck included the American Legion, American Legion Auxiliary, African Violets of the Valley, Boy Scout Troop 993 and Cub Scout Pack 997.

Chaplin Kelly Berry of the African Violets said she was on hand to network with newcomers in the Maricopa area and help community members make friends.

The Scouts volunteered to help with the event.

“We just came to help serve … food and tear down,” said Boy Scout troop committee chairman Gerry Hahn. “This is our community service; we work with the Veteran’s Center when they need help with something.” The American Legion and American Legion Auxiliary supplied most of the tables and chairs for the event.
