State troopers name road rage suspect said to have opened fire on SR 347

The Arizona Department of Public Safety has named the road rage suspect who shot at least nine times at another motorist on State Route 347 last week.

State troopers arrested Darnell Edwards Lemons II and charged him with drive-by shooting, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, endangerment and criminal damage, DPS spokesperson Bart Graves told InMaricopa today.

The incident took place Tuesday when a Ford F-150 pickup truck allegedly cut off Lemons’ Lexus ES sedan. Lemons then opened fire at the truck through his windshield, striking the vehicle’s tailgate and rear emergency lights.

Troopers pulled over Lemons on Bowlin Road, between Alterra and John Wayne Parkways just south of Maricopa’s main strip.

The driver who was fired upon was not injured. The authorities transported Lemons to a nearby hospital for an unrelated medical condition. After his release, he was booked into the Pinal County jail.

Graves did not specify when Lemons was released from the hospital.

InMaricopa is awaiting a copy of the incident report from the Pinal County Sheriff’s Office for further details on what led up to the shooting and his arrest.

Public records show a man named Darnell Lemons owns a home in the Maricopa Meadows.
