The Pinal County Board of Supervisors honored the achievements of two Health and Human Service directors last week. Donna Beedle and Tom Schryer were given Health and Human Service’s Award of Excellence.

Beedle, Pinal/Gila Long Term Care director, was lauded for her department’s increase of clinical indicators for clients within the system.

“Our deliverables in disease management were at an all time low,” stated assistant county manager for Health and Human Services, Lisa Garcia. “Donna and her staff at Pinal/Gila Long Term Care worked hard to raise those clinical indicators at or above national levels.”

Garcia said the number of diseases such as heart disease, lung disease and diabetes were increasing with clients in the system. The case managers at Pinal/Gila Long Term Care worked with caregivers and family members to develop a plan of treatment for clients to lower disease numbers. Clinical indicators provided a quantitative basis for the type of care that clients receive.

Schryer, Pinal County’s Public Health Director, and his staff were honored for their efforts in carrying out three successful H1N1 mass vaccination clinics throughout Pinal County.

“Over 4,400 people were immunized in these three mass vaccination clinics,” Garcia said. “That effort made a positive impact on the health of Pinal County young people and adults. Schryer, his staff and staff from many county departments worked together to make sure the clinics could vaccinate anyone who wanted to receive the H1N1 vaccine. The clinics were orderly and efficient.”

The mass vaccination clinics were held in San Tan Valley, Casa Grande and Mammoth.  All three clinics were held inside public schools.
