Suspicious persons call leads to recovery of stolen goods

Joshua Gopshes, 19, and Jeanette Joiner, 23, both of Maricopa, were charged with burglary in the second degree Saturday when a witness saw the pair throwing things over a block wall and called the police.

The pair confessed to being involved in two early-morning burglaries of residences on the 18000 block of North Roosevelt Avenue.

The Maricopa Police Department responded to the suspicious persons call at 5:16 a.m.

Officers canvassed the neighborhood and found Gopshes and Joiner walking on foot.

They confessed to the crimes when interviewed.

Officers recovered approximately $2,000 of stolen goods, including tools.

The owners of the stolen property did not know they had been burglarized until notified by police.

The police department praised the citizen who reported the activity in a press release and said “good eye witness observations were very helpful to the successful conclusion in this case.”

Officer Jenny Alsidez, MPD spokeswoman, said eyewitnesses should report “whatever they can get safely,” including a description of the suspect’s clothing, vehicle, height, hair color or “anything that stands out.”
