Business Profile: Suzie still cruising in travel business

381

Like many dedicated wives before her, Suzie Miller came to Maricopa when her husband was transferred for work. She decided to make the most of her time here.

“I had a travel business before we moved, but never had a name or anything,” Miller said. “My husband actually came up with Suz’s Cruises. It rhymed and I thought it was catchy, so I kept it.”

Miller officially opened Suz’s Cruises in 2007. She will celebrate her eighth anniversary in June.

“I get most of my customers from word of mouth and referrals,” Miller said. “I also try to be involved with the community and sponsor local charities.”

Miller uses her car as a mobile advertisement. She sees it as a conversation starter and loves to tell members of the community all about her business when they ask.

Maricopa may not seem like the ideal place to open a cruise-based travel agency, but Miller doesn’t see a problem.

“I like to remind people that the ocean is just five hours away,” Miller said. “You can get on a ship in San Diego and have a nice weekend. You can also drive right over and have a nice long vacation.”

Suzie will keep cruising along, enjoying her job and community.

“I always tell people, shop local and travel far,” Miller said. “Go have an adventure.”
