Two Veterans Day events are being held Friday in Maricopa, one at Rotary Park and the other at Legacy Traditional School.

At Rotary Park, a flag raising ceremony will be held by the Maricopa posts of American Legion and Veterans of Foreign War at 8:30 a.m.

The ceremony will be followed by a one-mile fun run/walk at 10:30 a.m. and a community barbecue at 12:30 p.m. The flag-raising is a yearly tradition in Maricopa, and the run/walk and barbecue are new events.

The Rotary Park is located off the Maricopa-Casa Grande Highway near the Maricopa Unified School District’s administrative offices.

The third annual Veterans Day pancake breakfast will be held at Legacy Traditional School from 9 to 11 a.m. The school is located on Bowlin Road east of Porter Road.

The breakfast is free, but community members are asked to bring items to be shipped to troops overseas.

Troops need canned goods, crossword puzzle books, playing cards, games, books and magazines and toiletries such as tooth brushes and toothpaste.
