Several events throughout Maricopa will celebrate Veterans Day Monday by acknowledging the sacrifices men and women in the armed services make for the country.

The Maricopa Veterans Center will have a flag raising ceremony and presentation from 8 – 8:45 a.m.

The Maricopa Veterans Center is at 44240 W. Maricopa-Casa Grande Highway.

Legacy Traditional School will host a free pancake breakfast from 8:30 – 10 a.m., a bike parade from 9 – 10 a.m. and a ceremony from 10 – 10:30 a.m.

The school is located at 17760 N. Regent Drive

Province Town Hall will celebrate Sunday with a ceremony at 2 p.m. It will feature stories, poems, music and vignettes reflecting the nation’s conflicts from the Revolutionary War to the present.

To honor Veterans Day’s origin – it originally derived from the Armistice Day, which marks the signing of the Armistice that ended World War I – the ceremony will include the playing of the Last Post and a two-minute silence followed by a playing of The Rouse.
