VFW and American Legion to honor patriots with ceremony Friday

Maricopa veterans will commemorate Patriot Day on Friday with a flag-raising ceremony scheduled for 8 a.m. at Rotary Park.

The Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 12043, American Legion Post 133 and all local veterans invite residents to join them for the ceremony at the Veterans Memorial located in Rotary Park. The ceremony begins at 8 a.m. The VFW and American Legion maintain the Veterans Memorial and conduct flag-raising ceremonies on all national holidays and special recognition days.

The Veterans Memorial was dedicated in July 1990 to all Veterans of the United States of America, by what was then the Community of Maricopa. It was constructed by the Maricopa Future Farmers of America (FFA) and sponsored by the Maricopa Rotary Club.

On Sept.18 another ceremony will be held, also from 8 to 8:30 a.m. at the same location, in honor of POW / MIA Recognition Day.

The VFW and American Legion also invite anyone interested in either organization to contact the Post Commanders:
