Waste Management of Arizona announced Thursday the opening of the Maricopa Organics Recycling Facility at its Sierra Estrella facility, developed in collaboration with Garick LLC.

Garick LLC is a leading manufacturer, marketer and distributor of biomass fuel supply, organic lawn and garden products.

Waste Management of Arizona will collect green waste such as yard and clean wood waste recovered from the company’s transfer stations, which Garick will process into biomass wood fuel. It primarily will be sold to Frito-Lay to run its Casa Grande facility.

In addition to biomass wood fuel, Garick will produce compost and mulch for local use.

“We are pleased to work with Garick, a leader in generating natural resource products, by adding organics recycling to our portfolio of services,” said Pat DeRueda, Waste Management of Arizona-New Mexico area vice president.

This illustrates one way we are diversifying our service offering and creating sustainable solutions for our customers, while area consumers, businesses and communities benefit from locally developed compost and mulch.”

John Gundlach, senior vice president of Garick’s Environmental and Energy Group, said: “We look forward to building and growing our business in Maricopa.”

Waste Management of Arizona, and its 1,000 statewide employees, provide waste and recycling services to nearly 500,000 customers throughout the state. For more information, visit www.wmofarizona.com.
