Robot server at Denny's Maricopa.

A majority of Maricopans say their special career skills ward off the threat of artificial intelligence replacing them in the workplace.

InMaricopa’s weekly poll shows 54.11% of readers responding said they have a “very particular set of skills, skills I have acquired over a very long career, skills that make me a nightmare for robots like you.”

The poll comes as one Maricopa restaurant was found to be using a robot as a food server, a potential harbinger of workplace technology to come.

The poll generated 316 responses.

Of those polled, 19.62% said they might be replaceable in the future, while 10.76 percent admitted they were definitely replaceable by a robot in the future.

It was 15.51% who said they were unemployed.

Comments about the poll on the InMaricopa Facebook page took the issue of artificial intelligence and robots to the lighter side.

“It’s the rise of the machines! They are a threat to our LIVES!!! Get to the choppahh!!!” quipped Jamie Morano.

Joe Formica focused on good customer service: “I’m ok with it if my order is correct and the patty is in the middle of the bun.”
