Xtreme Fitness closes; city buys equipment

The city of Maricopa has purchased about $85,000 worth of fitness equipment for the ultra low price of $30,000.

Included in the equipment acquired by the city are leg curl machines, treadmills, benches, squat racks, bikes, steppers and every other piece of fitness equipment once located at Xtreme Fitness.

Public Safety will look at the equipment to decide what they would like to utilize for their employees’ physical training. Once they have made their selections, the city’s Community Services Department will have the opportunity to see if any of the equipment could be utilized for the future Teen Center.

Any remaining equipment will either be sold or saved for future use.

However, the city’s windfall does come at the expense of another Maricopa business closing its doors.

Xtreme Fitness opened for the first time on Aug. 31, 2005, in the Fry’s Marketplace.

Owner Phil Nesbihal, with over 25 years in the fitness industry and numerous first place bodybuilding awards, put both his knowledge and experience to work in bringing Xtreme Fitness to Maricopa.

“This is not really a business for me,” explained Nesbihal, when he opened the fitness center. “It’s my passion, my life.”

Xtreme Fitness is no longer in business, and Nesbihal could not be reached for comment.
