Yankees in town meant field trip for transplanted New Yorkers

Brian Mullins, owner of Anytime Fitness, is a New York Yankees fan. Mullins, who grew up in the Bronx, is not shy about his affection for the Yankees, so it’s fitting that he and his employees from Anytime Fitness in Maricopa made the trip to Chase Field last Monday to see the Yankees take on the hometown Arizona Diamondbacks.

Mullins, like many transplanted New Yorkers in Maricopa, still remembers his roots. “Growing up as a kid, I absolutely loved the Yankees,” Mullins said. “You never forget your first love.”

Mullins planned a bus trip to the ballpark to watch the first game of the series. Those attending included a variety of Yankees, Boston Red Sox and Diamondbacks fans.

Though Mullins went to root on his Yankees, he says his one true rival is the Red Sox. “It’s not that I don’t like the Diamondbacks.” Mullins said “It’s that I hate the Red Sox.”

Mullins had plenty of reasons to cheer and some reasons to boo. His Yankees won two of three in the series, losing the only game Mullins attended on Monday night.
