Pinal County Government consulted with the National Research Center in Boulder, Colo. and asked residents for their input regarding services and quality of life in Pinal County.

Surveys were mailed to 3,000 randomly selected households.

The Pinal County Sheriff’s Office services received the highest ranking of any government entity with a 75 percent approval rating.

Of the residents surveyed, “97 percent support law enforcement efforts in Pinal County to lower crime rates and response times for calls for service.” This area was the top response for the use of expending local resources to improve services.

During the past 20 months the Pinal County Sheriff’s Office has worked hard to reduce crime rates and lower response times for calls for service. Emergency response times have already been reduced by over 3 minutes, and we are working on ways to further reduce this time. When a citizen calls 9-1-1 we want to arrive as quickly as possible. We have accomplished this through reducing 9-1-1 call answer times, putting Mobile Data Computers in every patrol vehicle, and creating individual beats that deputies are assigned to.

On Wednesday, Sept. 15, Sheriff Babeu will be presenting a proposal to the Pinal County Board of Supervisors requesting emergency funding to implement an “Anti Smuggling Enforcement Unit” (ASEU).

The Mission of the Pinal County Sheriff’s Office “ASEU” will be to identify criminal activity associated with drug and human trafficking and deploy accordingly in an effort to reduce the amount of violent and peripheral crimes associated with both. The unit will be comprised of one sergeant and six deputies.

The Pinal County Sheriff’s Office “ASEU” will interdict, disrupt and dismantle drug and human trafficking operations in and around Pinal County.

Sheriff Babeu will be requesting that a small portion of the $26.5 million in the County Financial Stability fund and $5.9 million in the contingency fund be used to fund this vital unit.
