The Arizona Department of Transportation began restrictions on northbound State Route 347 this morning as the John Wayne Parkway improvements project gets underway.

Northbound SR 347 is reduced to one lane between Smith-Enke Rd to north of the city limits today until 5 p.m.

Traffic along Maricopa’s main strip has been heavily congested all day.

The same closures will take place from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. tomorrow.

Following this restriction, traffic will be shifted to the shoulder to maintain two lanes of traffic during the project, as a new lane is added in the northbound direction.

ADOT advises drivers to slow down and use caution around construction personnel and equipment while work is underway.
