9 local eateries inspected in August

Maricopa Fry’s Market Place was the only business among nine inspected by the Pinal Health Department in August to receive less than a perfect score.

Inspections in grocery stores are conducted by treating the various departments as separate entities.

In the case of Fry’s, the deli and the grocery side of the business received scores of “S” or satisfactory; however, the bakery received a perfect score..

The dings for the grocery store were due to holding food at improper temperatures, not having paper towels near a sink and not properly separating raw meat products.

Health inspectors conduct random inspections aimed at ensuring that all the proper steps are being taken to maintain consumer safety, Pinal County officials said. To that end, the department can issue violations that are either critical or non-critical. Critical violations must be fixed within 10 days and affect a location’s score. Non-critical violations must be fixed within 90 days.

Grades are based on the number of violations, with an “E” for excellent being the highest possible score an establishment can receive. Other scores are: “S” for satisfactory; “U” for unacceptable and “N” for needs improvement.

Those receiving perfect scores in August were Kentucky Fried Chicken/Long John Silvers, Subway, Teakwoood Tavern and Grill, Farmer’s Restaurant, Penascos Mexican Restaurant, Papago Cantina, The Water Boy, Fry’s Bakery and Arby’s.
