No bus barn at the Lakes

Residents of the Lakes can rejoice.

The Maricopa Unified School District Governing Board decided last Wednesday not to put a bus barn on the Lakes property.

“It was not a good place to put a bus barn,” said board president Shannon Amos.

The district is currently looking at several other sites (see related story).

“We don’t own a piece of land that could be used for the bus barn, so we may have to work a trade or a purchase,” said Tom Beckett, spokesperson for the district.

The district has had to move the buses from their former location behind the football field to the parking lot of the administrative building because of the high school expansion.

“We are up against a wall and need to get something done soon about the location of the new bus barn,” Beckett said.
