Embracing Freedom: Celebrating the Fourth of July

Submitted By: Councilmember Vincent Manfredi- As the Fourth of July approaches, a day when Americans come together to commemorate the birth of our nation, it’s essential to reflect on the significance of this holiday. Recently, I came across an article on the National website discussing why some individuals no longer celebrate Independence Day. It highlighted various reasons, such as concerns about freedom, discomfort with fireworks, and even the fear of judgment from others. However, it is crucial to remember that the beauty of this country lies in the freedom to choose. As a councilmember and proud American, I believe that the Fourth of July is a special occasion that allows us to celebrate our identity and our nation’s values.

A Land of Freedom:

America is built upon the foundations of freedom. Our nation’s history is a testament to the tireless efforts of those who fought for liberty and justice. The Fourth of July serves as a reminder that we are privileged to live in a land that values individual freedoms and self-expression. Whether you choose to celebrate this holiday or not, the fact that you have the freedom to make that choice is a testament to the essence of being American.

Honoring Our Differences:

One of the most remarkable aspects of America is its diversity. Our nation is composed of individuals from various backgrounds, beliefs, and perspectives. Some may choose to celebrate the Fourth of July by attending parades, hosting barbecues, or watching spectacular firework displays. However, it is essential to acknowledge that not everyone feels compelled to partake in these traditions. And that’s perfectly fine. Our freedom extends to every aspect of our lives, including the decision to celebrate or not.

The Power of Choice:

The Fourth of July reminds us that we have the power to make our own decisions. If you prefer to spend the day at home, indulging in a binge-watching session or pursuing other activities that bring you joy, you should feel free to do so. This holiday grants us the ability to be ourselves authentically, embracing our individuality without the pressure to conform. It is a time to exercise our right to choose, and that includes the choice to celebrate or simply appreciate the freedom we enjoy.

Embracing Celebration:

Personally, I will be celebrating the Fourth of July in the vibrant city of Maricopa. I am excited to join the festivities at the Great American 4th at Copper Sky, where I will watch the breathtaking fireworks display at 9:00 PM alongside my family. For years, this has been a cherished tradition, reminding me of the blessings of living in the greatest country in the world. Our nation, despite its imperfections, continues to be a beacon of hope, embodying the true spirit of freedom.

As the Fourth of July approaches, let us remember the essence of this holiday: freedom. It is a time to embrace our uniqueness, honoring our right to choose whether to celebrate or not. America stands as a testament to the power of freedom, offering us the opportunity to live our lives authentically. So, whether you spend the day attending grand festivities or find solace in the comforts of your home, always remember the profound impact of the Fourth of July—a celebration of the liberties we hold dear.
