A man and woman face drug charges after police responded to a welfare check on the woman, police said, on Thursday morning.

Drew W. Bortz, identified as the male involved, faces charges of possession of narcotic drugs, possession of drug paraphernalia and dangerous drugs, police said. Kirsten Anderson, identified as the female involved, faces one charge of drug paraphernalia, along with a probation violation warrant.

According to police, both the man and woman were arrested and booked into Pinal County Jail.

According to the probable cause statement:

At 2:08, Maricopa Police responded to Circle K, 21212 N. John Wayne Pkwy., for a welfare check on a woman, who was reportedly passed out in a green Dodge Charger by the gas pumps.

Officers contacted the occupants of the vehicle and identified them. Bortz was in the driver’s seat, with Anderson as a passenger.

In plain view, officers say they saw a glass pipe with a dark stem in the vehicles cup holder. A box containing multiple pipes was also seen in the rear of the vehicle, behind the passenger.

Officers also located foil with burnt residue along the passenger floorboard and within the passenger’s door cup holder.

Allegedly, Bortz had a clear baggie on his lap that contained multiple smaller baggies that contained a white, powdered substance. Bortz later told officers that the white powdery substance was fentanyl, and advised them that he was in possession of steroids.

Officers searched the Dodge and located a pill bottle containing M30 pills, Xanax, burnt foil paper and pipes commonly used to smoke methamphetamine.

Bortz advised that the M30 pills belong to him because he self-medicates.
