Maricopa Police Department arrested an accused U-Haul thief Monday.
Police arrested 37-year-old Anthony J. Lee Ladiero Calucag after a license plate-reading camera tracked him down, according to a probable cause statement obtained by InMaricopa.
At about 6 p.m. Dec. 8, a surveillance camera at an undisclosed U-Haul rental facility caught Calucag hooking up a U-Haul trailer to his truck and driving away. He didn’t pay to rent the equipment.
A FLOCK license plate-reading camera later spotted the stolen trailer attached to a Lincoln Navigator registered to Calucag. Police were alerted.
Officers found Calucag at his West Giallo Lane home in Sorrento on Monday where he admitted to stealing the trailer, the police report said.
Calucag told police he used the trailer to haul lumber from Casa Grande to his home. He said he had no intention of returning the trailer.
Officers found the trailer about a mile from Calucag’s home. He ditched it on the corner of Capri Avenue and Ravello Avenue, according to the police report.
Calucag was booked into the Pinal County jail on one felony count of stealing property valued at $10,000.
He faces more than 5 years in prison.
