Accident victim looking for witness

386

On Monday, Aug. 30, at about 2:30 p.m., I was heading north on John Wayne Pkwy to go to Chase bank. As I made a left turn at Cobblestone Farms Drive, a car came out of, seemingly, nowhere and ran into me.

After the accident I was so shaken from the experience that I couldn’t recall exactly what had happened and ended up being labeled as completely at fault by the police officer at the scene. Later that night, after some rest, I remembered the details and believe I am not to blame for the accident.

Now I am at the mercy of Arizona law that says the person making a left turn is completely at fault unless there is a witness.

The problem is this: no one came forward as a witness to say I was hit by a truck that ran a red light at high speed. That corroboration would put at least some of the blame on the other party.

The John Wayne Parkway and Cobblestone Farms Drive intersection is very dangerous, especially during the rush hours. If a person were to wait at the crosswalk until there was an opening in oncoming traffic, that person would be there a long, long time.

Generally, a person is expected to pull out and get ready to turn left, just as I did.

The problem, I now believe, is that the other driver didn’t see me because another vehicle waiting to make a U-turn was obstructing her view, and she thought she could run the light even though everyone else was stopped at the light.

I am asking for help from anyone who might have witnessed the accident, and I am willing to pay a reward if that person will step forward as a reliable witness.

My car only had liability and is completely totaled. It was my most valuable asset since I am on total disability and now, somehow, will have to learn to live without personal transportation.

Sincerely,
Roy Hyder
