Achieving hair volume in 4 easy steps

369

Everyone loves volume and natural, easy curls. Achieving this look is very easy.

Here are some how-to tips:

1.  Towel dry hair your hair after shampooing. I like to use a volumizing shampoo; they tend to be a little lighter. Remember, also, shampoo is for the scalp; conditioner is for the ends of your hair I like to start with the conditioner about two to three inches from the scalp. Too much conditioner on the roots will weigh your hair down.

2.  Apply volumizer. There are a several types of volumizers: spray, mousse or a liquid. I recommend Kevin Murphy Anti-Gravity. Apply to wet hair and blow dry hair upside down.

3.  Depending on your hair length, you will need a 3/4 inch to a 1 and 1/2 inch curling iron (the ¾ inch will give long hair more curl). You will want to divide your hair into sections and spray with a little hairspray or heat setting spray, then curl. Do this to your entire head of hair. When you curl around your face, you will want to curl away from your face. Do not brush hair.

4. Next you can take a smoothing serum or a soft holding wax, put a little bit on your hands and comb hair with fingers. This will help with fly-a-ways. Complete with a finishing spray, preferably aerosol. Pumps tend to leave air bubbles of hairspray in your hair and can flake. The strength of the hairspray is your preference, depending on the weather and/or the event you are attending. I recommend the Kevin Murphy Session Spray. It has a firm, weightless, lasting hold.
