The repaving of State Route 347 from Edison Road in the city to Papago Road south of Harrah’s casino was completed in 30 days.

On May 1, the Arizona Department of Transportation began a $2.5 million project to rehabilitate that portion of the highway, which is frequently traveled by Valley-bound commuters who live south of the Union Pacific Railroad tracks.

With the repaving finished, crews are working on replacing signs, building up the shoulders and putting finishing touches on the striping, said ADOT spokesman Dustin Krugel.

"The project is still on schedule to be completed by early July,” he said.

The project included removing the existing top asphalt layer and repaving the roadway with new asphalt. In addition, new pavement markers and updated signage are included.

ADOT advises drivers to proceed through or near work zones with caution, slow down and be alert for construction equipment and personnel.
