The mining boom is long over in Maricopa, but a couple of iconic reality TV characters still think they can dig up treasure here.

American Pickers, the popular antique-hunting series on The History Channel, is coming to prospect for precious curios a second time since just last year

The collectibles connoisseurs are sniffing out leads as they gear up to film new episodes next month. Show executives told InMaricopa this morning they plan to film episodes of the hit television program near Maricopa, but specific filming dates and locations are not yet available.

From coast to coast, the Pickers dig through garages, barns, basements and abandoned buildings, hoping to uncover valuable items along the way.

Joshua Kerlin, one of the show’s producers, said the team is open to everything.

“From vintage motorcycles, pedal cars and old Schwinn bicycles to Tiffany lamps and baseball memorabilia,” he said. “As long as it’s fun and interesting.”

The Pickers keep their eyes peeled for family heirlooms and tchotchkes with a story to tell. Arizona has been a hotbed for these items in the past and Pinal County is on the itinerary.

Pickers only look in private collections — no auctions, museums, stores or other public places, Kerlin said.
