Anita’s clips and tips

Did you know pool chemicals and sea salts can strip away hair’s healthy oils and bind to the hair, intensifying the damaging effects of the sun?

There are a few things you can do to avoid damage. You can get a leave-in conditioner and put it in your hair before you go swimming, or simply get your hair wet before you jump in the pool. This will help your hair not soak up the chlorine because it is already wet. You can also pick up a clarifying shampoo to use once a week.

Redken’s Color Extend Sun Sparkling Shield is good to use prior to swimming to preserve the integrity of the hair fiber and create a barrier that helps prevent chemicals and minerals from adhering to the hair’s surface. Pool chemicals and sea minerals can turn hair color brassy, grayish or even green, and can penetrate the cuticle to accelerate hair color fading.

Redken’s Color Extend Sun After-Sun Shampoo removes salt, chlorine and minerals and keeps hair color looking healthy and vibrant, helping to repair sun-damaged hair. Color Extend Sun After Sun Mask detangles and revitalizes sun damaged hair with intense moisture replenishment and repair. UVA/UVB rays strip away the cuticle, causing hair to become dull, rough and prone to frizz and fly-aways. Before you know it, hair is left dry and brittle. Lastly, Color Extend Sun Solar Screen has an SPF of 12 that protects your scalp to prevent sunburn, peeling and flaking, and it also protects sun-stressed hair.

Summer makeup should not be heavy, and the main focus should be on protecting your skin. You should use a moisturizing lotion with SPF, and a loose, tinted powder. You can also set the powder with a mineral veil. I like Maybelline’s mineral veil and also their mineral powder. We also carry Mirabella mineral makeup in the salon. Remember, summer is for lighter makeup. There are lip glosses with shimmer in them that you can pick up at retail stores like Walgreens, CVS and Walmart. You can purchase any of the hair care products at our salon.
