The Maricopa Chamber of Commerce expressed its sadness Friday at the passing of Bill “Waz” Wasowicz, a longtime resident, businessman, and “icon of the Maricopa community,” according to a press release.

Wasowicz was a former chairman of the chamber board, and as a real estate professional, he knew and became friends with a large part of the community, the chamber said.

He ran The Wizards of WAZ real estate with his wife Patti.

Wasowicz assisted many families and businesses to find their “home” in Maricopa, and “was certainly one of the founding fathers of Maricopa in the formative years.”

A memorial service is set for 4:30 p.m. Monday at Community of Hope Church, 18700 N. Porter Road. Friends attending the service are asked to wear sports jerseys and/or gear, and donations may be made to the Jimmy V Foundation at www.jimmyv.org.

It is asked that “due to allergies,” no one send flowers.
