A 38-year-old Maricopa woman was murdered, the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office confirmed tonight.

Crystal Uptain was found dead around noon Dec. 5 near the Butterfield Station Landfill in Mobile.

MCSO deputies responded and found “some suspicious circumstances involving the scene,” including unexplained injuries, MCSO spokesperson Monica Bretado told InMaricopa.

The MCSO Homicide Unit responded and took over.

Maricopa Police Department reported Uptain missing from the home she shared with her husband on Grantham Road in Homestead, according to public records.

Neighbors said someone outside the home reported her missing to local police and that MPD executed a search warrant at the home.

A spokesperson for MPD referred InMaricopa to MCSO.

“The MCSO Homicide Unit is actively investigating the death of Crystal with assistance from the Maricopa Police Department,” Bretado said.

“This is all the information available at this time.”
