OLC (Oasis Life Center) School for the Arts is offering a number of courses this summer for both younger and older students.

“We are looking forward to our summer programs,” said OLC School for the Arts Director Carrie Vargas.

“There is an immense amount of talent in Maricopa, and I want to be able to offer classes so that people can explore their talents,” Vargas said when she opened OLC just over a year ago. With the wide assortment of classes available at the school, which is located at 19756 N. John Wayne Parkway (Suite 108), residents and their children can do that.

Classes (now through Aug.7):

Mondays and Tuesdays from 3-6 p.m.: Voice lessons (½ hour classes); 4 to 7 p.m.: Guitar- acoustic/electric (½ hour classes, private lessons only)

Thursdays from 3-6 p.m.: Voice lessons (½ hour classes)

Camps:

June 15-19 Drama Camp $75; 9-11a.m. (ages 8-12); 1-3 p.m. (ages 13-18)

Vargas describes Drama Camp: “Calling all actors! In this weeklong summer camp students will explore acting, auditioning, character development and more in a safe and fun environment. It is an experience your child will always remember. This camp will also include résumé writing and headshots, in addition to a final performance on Friday for family and friends.”

June 22-26 Arts Camp $75; 8-10 a.m. (ages 3-5); 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. (ages 6-8)

“Enhance the joy of summer by enrolling your children in our Arts Camp,” says Vargas. “Students will enjoy exploring acting, art, puppetry, music, dance and more in a safe and fun environment. Provide an experience your child will always remember. A mini-recital for parents and their families will take place on Friday, the last day of camp.”

July 13-17 Rock Band Camp $90; 4-7 p.m. (ages 12-18)

According to Vargas, “Rock Band Camp is for anyone who wants to rock! Students will spend their days learning about all different aspects of a rock band performance, from cool guitar riffs and a killer vocal to back beats, bass slaps and even lights and sound. On the last day of camp we’ll be having an enormous battle of the bands for parents, grandparents, friends, neighbors, teddy bears and anyone else we can fill the audience with. So sign up now if you’re ready to rock!”
