Brownie Girl Scout Troop 656, which is part of the Wild Horse Neighborhood, held their investiture/rededication ceremony last week at Pima Butte Elementary School.

“Family and friends were invited to attend in order to recognize the 13 girls in the troop for all their hard work,” explained Troop Leader Colleen Buck. The other adult troop leaders are Lisa Merchant and Patti Coutre.

Each girl received a certificate and Try-Its (patches) earned thus far this year, after demonstrating the Girl Scout handshake.

Part of the ceremony included the lighting of yellow, green and white candles, representing the various aspects of Girl Scouting. The yellow represents the spiritual and the green is the Girl Scout Law; each girl recited a portion of it. White represents the Girl Scout Promise, which the girls gave in unison. The girls also had an individual candle to blow out in order to make a wish.

Following the ceremony, the girls participated in a craft project, writing ‘what I’m thankful for’ notes on leaves to affix to small trees that will used as centerpieces at the community Thanksgiving dinner organized by various local churches and hosted by Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church.

The current project for Troop 656 is putting a basket together for the local food bank, F.O. R. Maricopa. The basket will include all the traditional Thanksgiving fare. “We will definitely feed one entire family for Thanksgiving,” said Buck.
