Local 4th grader headed to performing arts world competition

Christian Baymack, a fourth grade student at Butterfield Elementary School, has been selected to perform in the World Championship of Performing Arts in July.

At the Hollywood event he will be competing in the modeling and acting categories as part of Team USA.

The World Championships are the Olympics for singers, dancers, actors, models, instrumentalists and variety artists (jugglers, magicians, etc.). The winner gets a coveted gold medal, the respect and admiration of the 50 countries competing, along with, potentially, the career opportunity of a lifetime. Silver and bronze medals are also awarded, as well as Olympic-style trophies for overall winners and scholarship monies totaling $120,000.

This year, the competition on July 15-24 will celebrate its 15th year. Griff O’Neil, competition president and founder, and a one-time executive of the Miss Universe Pageant, has recruited over 75 scouts and national directors to scour the globe for outstanding talent. “This is the only Olympic-style talent competition ever created,” said O’Neil. “It is a rare opportunity for the privileged few selected to participate at this elite world event.”

Performances are strictly limited to one minute, and individuals compete in either the junior division (ages 15 and under) or the senior age category (16 and over).

Christian needs to raise about $5,000 for room and board, costumes and props. He has been doing various fundraisers and selling VIP discount cards. On Saturday, May 21, he will be hosting a donation car wash at AutoZone from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
