Bowlin Road Circle K in the works

Plans to build a Circle K convenience store and gas station at John Wayne Parkway and Bowlin Road are again moving forward after the poor economy hampered the project’s development.

The city approved a site plan for the store in April 2007. InMaricopa.com previously reported that construction would begin in December 2009.
Terry Brown, advertising and brand manager for Circle K Stores Inc., said in an email the project was pushed back because of the recession. The company hopes to develop the property – a portion of a 61,775-square-foot vacant lot – in the third quarter of 2014.

Brown said the project is “still awaiting approval from senior management.”

The lot is on the northeast corner of the intersection, just north of where the city is constructing its 140-acre Copper Sky Recreation Complex, which will include a multigenerational and aquatics center. The complex is scheduled to open in the spring.

According to a site plan review application, Circle K has redesigned the architecture of the convenience store and fuel dispensing canopy “to be more reflective” of the multigenerational facility.

“The city asked us to reflect the architecture of the recreation center, and we were very willing to incorporate elements that would cohesively tie the Circle K operation to the town’s center,” Brown said.
