City axes free energy drinks

The city of Maricopa pulled the rug out from under a free energy drink promotion that started at 5 a.m. this morning, due to permitting issues.

“They came out and told us since we don’t have permits for our signs or trucks, we had to pack it up,” said Kevin Conrad, executive vice president of Go Fast Sports.

Go Fast Sports (www.gofastsports.com) is the maker of the Go Fast energy drink, which is carried at all Express Stop gas stations.

To promote their drink the workers from the Colorado-based company put up banner signs at the gas station, parked two trucks decorated with Go Fast emblems and rolled out a Go Fast motorcycle.

The promotion ran for about three hours before city officials arrived and pulled the plug.

“We have had these events all over Arizona and were never told we needed permits anywhere else,” Conrad added.

No one from the city could be reached for comment.
