City leaders are seeking public comment on a proposed land sale in the weeks before a special election this summer.

Proposition 482 would give voters the opportunity to say yea or nay to the city selling 728 acres around town for “community and economic development” opportunities. The special election is slated for July 30.

Arguments for or against the proposition are limited to 300 words and must be emailed to the city clerk at [email protected] by 6 p.m. May 1. Arguments must include a signature block with the address and phone number of each signer, as well as a sworn statement above the signature.

About Prop 482

A yes vote on the ballot proposition would authorize the city to sell 728 acres of city-owned property to fund “community and economic development designed to create local jobs and enhance the local economy,” according to the resolution.

Arizona law requires city land sales valued over $1.5 million be first approved by voters in a special election before the sale can occur. Documents did not specify how much the land is valued for.

The sale includes 328 acres of the $29.3 million industrial land purchase city council approved earlier this week.

A full copy of the ballot language and parcel maps can be found on the city clerk’s website.
