City to pave parts of Maricopa-Casa Grande Highway

The city will pave a portion of the Maricopa-Casa Grande Highway on Thursday and Friday near White and Parker Road.

Because of its poor condition, the road will receive an asphalt overlay. Traffic restrictions will be in place throughout construction; however, the road is expected to remain open to traffic at all times.

“It is imperative that the city take care of this potentially hazardous road situation as soon as possible,” said Brent Billingsley, development services director. “Although this is a temporary solution, the overlay project will restore this intersection to a safe condition, will protect and add some strength to the existing pavement structure, and improve ride quality.”

The city is in the final stages of the design phase for the permanent solution at this intersection. The final project will include additional paving and a traffic signal; it is estimated that the project will start in December 2008.
