Police union: city findings inaccurate

2230

The purpose of this letter is to respond to the article titled “City: Female MPD cop’s complaints not supported by evidence” and to show support for Sgt. Mary Turner who displayed exemplary courage to come forth with her complaints.

The City of Maricopa Police Association (COMPA) would like to thank the city of Maricopa for investigating the allegations made by Sergeant Turner. However, it is our position that the information in the human resources’ investigation did not accurately reflect the information provided by some, if not all the officers involved in the investigation.

COMPA is in the process of obtaining copies of the recordings of the interviews through public record requests. This will allow us to compare what was distributed by the city of Maricopa with what was actually recorded during the interviews. Keep in mind even with the city of Maricopa’s investigation stating the complaints were not supported doesn’t mean Turner’s complaints are without merit. Sgt. Turner can still exercise her due process rights through EEOC.

Turner is one of the original employees who were first hired by Chief Patrick Melvin. Turner is a vital employee with the Maricopa Police Department and is exceptional at leading the squad she supervises. Turner is well respected by others throughout the community she serves.
