Council takes up car washes, emergency vehicles

A new Fast and Friendly Car Wash will be one step closer to completion if the Maricopa City Council votes to approve its site plan review during its 7 p.m. regular meeting Tuesday.

The automatic car wash won’t be entirely without competition, however.

Another car wash service, Maricopa Auto Spa, 19395 John Wayne Parkway, has been operating under a temporary use permit but may become a permanent business if the council approves amending its site plan.

In a letter to the council, Raphael D. Thompson II said the business plans to install permanent commercial vacuums

Councilmembers also will consider purchasing new city vehicles for the fire and police departments.

The vehicles include five police administrative vehicles from Courtesy Chevrolet and one full-sized truck from Chapman Ford for $135,000.

In a separate vote, the council may approve buying a 2013 Ford F150 Super Cab for the fire department for $22,158.

Two street improvement projects will be considered including:

• Possible approval of a facility relocation agreement with Southwest Gas Corporation for $30,220 to move gas main. Moving the gas main is part of the larger overall project of widening Porter Road south of Honeycutt Road.

• An intergovernmental agreement between the city and the Arizona Department of Transportation to widen Maricopa-Casa Grande Highway between White and Parker and Porter Roads.

Another possible intergovernmental agreement between the city and the Phoenix Fire Department to provide annual firefighter medical examinations will be considered.
