Diedrich to go after council seat

Looking to serve Maricopa, Carl Diedrich has thrown his name in the ring for one of the council seats that will be contested next spring.

“I can confirm that I am running,” Diedrich said on Wednesday.

Diedrich was a member of Maricopa’s Fire District Board of Directors up until July. On July 1, the board became an advisory group as the fire district moved to a city department. Diedrich is a member of the Public Safety Advisory Committee.

Diedrich joins Rich Reeves, who announced his plans to run earlier this summer.

As of Wednesday, neither Diedrich nor Reeves had submitted their nomination petitions with the city to run. The deadline to do so is Dec. 12.

Three council seats are up for re-election next spring. They are the seats currently being held by Stephen Baker, Kelly Haddad and Will Dunn.

Mayor Kelly Anderson’s seat is also up for re-election in the spring.

As of now, only Anthony Smith has announced plans to run for mayor.
