Residents can dispose of hazardous trash

Maricopa city residents can dispose of their stockpiles of household hazardous waste and electronics waste during a dual event on Saturday, Nov. 12, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Recycling Association of Maricopa, 46250 W. McDavid Road.

The event is sponsored by the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality, City of Maricopa, Recycling Association of Maricopa, Environmental Concerns Organization, Inc., Stericycle and Westech Recyclers of Phoenix and is expected to collect tons of hazardous waste and provide an environmentally safe disposal method for Maricopa residents to get rid of unwanted materials in their homes and garages.

Among the items accepted in the HHW recycling area will be paints, paint thinners and removers, Freon, smoke detectors, fuel tanks, antifreeze, motor oil and fluids, light duty automobile tires, auto and other batteries, aerosol cans, pesticides, fluorescent lights, acids, household cleaners and lawn and garden products. No commercial hazardous waste, explosives or commercial tires will be accepted.

In the electronics waste recycling section, items accepted will be TVs, computers, monitors, cell phones, chargers, VCRs, CD and DVD players, fax machines, small appliances and cables and cords. The event is open only to Maricopa residents and proof of residency is required.
