Dog licensing proves a treat for Maricopa residents

Maricopa residents used to have to venture out of town to get their dog licensed. Now, however, the trip is as easy as a drive over to City Hall.

Pinal County Animal Care and Control is now offering pet licensing at City Hall on Wednesdays. Starting Wednesday, there will be a satellite office open from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Hours may be extended or days added depending on demand for services.

“Maricopa and the County worked together to provide this service to the residents,” City of Maricopa Public Affairs Manager Jennifer Grentz noted.

Every dog over four months needs to be licensed in compliance with state law. Arizona law also requires that all dogs over four months be vaccinated against rabies. To obtain a license, bring your pet’s current rabies certificate and proof of spay/neuter, although spay/neutering is not required for the license. Cats do not need to be registered.

Pet owners will also have to pay a fee: $20 for unaltered animals, $12 for altered pets (one year license) or $30 (three year license). Senior citizens, ages 62 plus, pay $6 for the one-year license and $18 for three years.
