Every vote matters in city primary on Tuesday

Maricopa’s registered voters on Tuesday will have the chance to cast ballots to fill three open Council seats and replace the outgoing mayor.

Three polling locations will be open from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. in Maricopa: Precinct 30 at First Baptist Church, 18705 N. John Wayne Parkway, Precinct 73 at Santa Rosa Elementary School, 2100 N. Santa Rosa Dr., and Precinct 74 at Pima Butte Elementary School, 42202 W. Rancho El Dorado.

This is one race in which every vote counts. On March 20, 2006, 274 voters cast ballots in the city election.

Joe Pyritz, Pinal County spokesman, said this year’s primary election will most likely be followed by a runoff election in May. To be elected in the primary, a candidate must receive 50 percent plus one of the total number of votes. For example, if 100 voters turn out, a candidate would need to receive 51 votes or more to secure a seat, Pyritz said.

Assistance is available to those who are unsure of where to vote by calling (520) 866-7550.
