2012 Father of the Year chosen

More than 2,200 votes were cast for 59 dads for InMaricopa’s 2012 Father of the Year contest sponsored by Maricopa Ace Hardware.

Grady Root, pastor of Maricopa Springs Church topped the nominations with 619 votes, capturing 27 percent of the vote.

Eric Hoffman received 364 votes, or 16 percent. Arturo Cordoba got 287 votes, coming in at 13 percent of the overall votes.

Maricopa Ace Hardware owner Mike Richey will award the prizes Saturday. Root will get first pick between three packages of prizes:

• Weber Spirit E-210 LP grill, portable folding hammock and 60-quart rolling cooler.
• Basketball/volleyball game for the pool, two Soft Foam luxury pool floats, Mega Chill floating cooler and $250 in chemicals/parts/toys of dad’s choice.
• Craftsman 245-piece mechanics tools set and case, plus a DeWalt 18v Drill/Impact Driver Combo Kit.
