A Freddy’s Frozen Custard and Steakburgers will be opening in Maricopa on the northeast corner of John Wayne Parkway and Smith-Enke Road.

Lexie Pearce, public relations coordinator for the national restaurant chain, said the restaurant’s franchise executive group, SunStates Custard Management, LLC, anticipates the Maricopa location will open in late 2014 or early 2015.

Craig Newman, director of operations for SunStates, said in a statement the Phoenix Valley “has many great sites for development, but Maricopa is one of the more intriguing locations.”

“Several of our current employees are from the area and helped convince us that Maricopa is a good fit for Freddy's,” he said. “We’re excited to partner with the area schools and local non-profit organizations and we’ll strive to provide top-tier hospitality, in addition to our freshly-prepared menu items.”

According to the restaurant chain’s website, there are 12 locations currently in Arizona.

The restaurant’s menu includes steakburgers, frozen custard and hotdogs.

The city’s Planning and Zoning Commission will hear a presentation Monday for a proposed commercial development, which includes the restaurant. The commission meets 6 p.m. in City Hall.

According to a project narrative submitted to the commission, the proposed development also includes a 7,800-square-foot multi-tenant shops building next to Freddy’s.

The shops building and restaurant will be positioned just north of the current CVS Pharmacy.

VP John Wayne, LLC will develop the shops building and Capital Development Partners will develop the Freddy’s restaurant, the narrative states.
