Getting back to principles

Since November of 2006, my wife, Misty, and I have made Maricopa our home, and this is where we’ll raise our children.  I’m not running for City Council to make friends, nor do I have a hidden agenda; I’m running to do what’s right for our community.  I  realize I’ll need to make difficult decisions, but because I have no desire to obtain a title or recognition, I know I’ll make decisions based on moral and ethical values for the citizens of Maricopa.  I have no potential conflicts of interest, I own only the land my home sits on, and I’m in no way connected to any developer or local utility company.

I believe government works for you.  I’ll maintain the highest expectations of integrity, transparency, and accountability with how your government operates and presents itself.  I’ll ensure you have the information you need to know to make educated decisions for you and your family.  There’s no need to lie or tell selective truths that only insult your intelligence, as Maricopa’s citizens deserve the right to make an informed decision.  I’ll always make myself available to meet with you, to discuss issues that matter to you, as an elected official is no more important than any other member of the community.

Public service is about putting your community before yourself.  When an elected representative makes decisions based more on how it will affect their re-electability then the sincerity of the issue being debated, that’s not public service; that’s self service.  I’ll make decisions based on my values, my beliefs; I’ll hold true to them, and will not be swayed by the idea of “going with the flow” or for whatever is “popular” at the time.  “Popular” represents the “now,” and may not represent what’s best long term.

It’s important you understand the values and beliefs I hold true; that I would take to council in the form of your voice.  What would it say about my character, and the trust you would have in me, if I changed my values and beliefs with each different audience?  I must hold true to my sense of integrity, and stand fast in my principles.  It’s my intention to be a community leader, but stand side by side with my fellow citizens, to make Maricopa inviting and prosperous, as we face the challenges of the uncertain future.

When voting for City Council in the upcoming election, remember the name “Alan Marchione.”
