The first stage of the extensive Interstate 10 expansion project is starting up this week.

At 7 a.m. Wednesday, crews will begin median work along the Gila River bridge, just north of Casa Blanca Road mileposts 172 to 174. Crews and equipment will be present through 4 p.m. April 5.

While the Arizona Department of Transportation doesn’t anticipate work to restrict traffic, they ask drivers to look out for construction crews in the median.

ADOT crews will begin construction on the bridge later this month, which will replace the existing two-lane bridges with new three-lane bridges with wide shoulders in each direction. Construction is expected to run through 2026.
