Global Water customers receive late payment letters in error

Some Maricopa residents mistakenly received a letter Saturday from the area’s water company saying they were overdue on bill payments.

Global Water, the company that manages the city’s water and wastewater utilities, posted a notice on its website Monday morning describing the mistake.

“This letter was intended to be sent to customers who have been delinquent in the payment of their bill two or more times in the last 12 months,” the notice states. “Unfortunately a number of accounts that are in good standing were included in error.”

Jon Corwin, general manager of the company’s regulated utilities, said a vendor who handles the Global Water’s mailing somehow made the mistake. Company officials are looking into how it was made.

Corwin said thousands of customers within Maricopa and Buckeye – those who receive services from the Santa Cruz, Palo Verde and Valencia utilities – received the letters.

“We will know who received (the letter) by mistake,” Corwin said. “We’re also going to follow up with customers who received the letter in error.”

Corwin added a follow-up letter will soon be sent to those customers and could possibly arrive in mailboxes by the end of the week.

He stressed the mistake will have no impact on a customer’s credit and is not sent to a credit reporting agency. He also said while mistakes have happened in the past, he could not recall a mistake of this size.

“To this scale, it’s absolutely unusual.”

The company is asking people with questions and concerns to either email [email protected] or call Customer Care at 866-940-1102. The notice states customers who call might experience long wait times because of the high number of calls.
