Gomez Tire fills niche in Maricopa

While several shops in Maricopa offer tire services, Tommy Gomez is looking to find a customer niche to help get his new business of the ground.

Gomez opened on Gomez Tires on Wednesday, providing a full service tire shop for not only passenger vehicles, but semi trucks, too.

“We had several tire shops in town, but no one was doing semi tires,” said the Maricopa resident.

Gomez added that he had talked to several operators about the possibility of him opening a shop, but none would commit to his service until the doors were officially opened.

Gomez has a long history in the tire industry; his family owns and operates Gomez tires in Mesa, which has been operating since 1973.

In addition to offering tires, tire replacement and repair, Gomez said he provides something the town is lacking: roadside service.

If a person breaks down within a 20-mile radius of his shop, Gomez says he will meet them, mount their spare tire and have their new tire ready by the time they return to his shop.

The majority of Gomez’s inventory is low-end tires, because he says that is what most people are looking for in this economy. But he can custom-order in any tire on request.

“I am happy to have the shop open and to service the tire needs of Maricopa,” Gomez said.
