Grant offers free Web sites to local businesses

The Maricopa Chamber of Commerce is facilitating a $30,000 grant from the Ak-Chin Indian Community aimed at helping local businesses.

Money from this grant will be used to develop Web sites for 30 local companies.

Once a business is approved for the site, they will be put in touch with one of two Web developers working the project, who will then design a logo for the company and four Web pages.

If the company requires additional pages or features such as Paypal, they will be responsible for paying for those features, according to chamber executive director Terri Kingery.

In addition to covering the cost of the page design, the grant will cover the hosting cost of the Web site and the cost of the domain name, and Web developers will provide one year of support.

“It is a great way for local businesses to get an online presence,” Kingery said.

Of the 25 sites the chamber had available to local businesses, only four remain, and they will be allocated on a first come, first served basis.

If interested in participating in the program, contact Kingery at (520) 568-9573.
