Gusse: Make an ‘Independent’ choice this election season

Are you ready for the politics, commercials, billboards, opinion pieces, articles and so on where the Democrats and the Republicans are going after each other?

I recently read an article regarding the justice of the peace/magistrate titled “Political silly season in full force” (in the Maricopa Monitor) and my first thought was – wow it seems early since many candidates have yet to submit their petitions to be put on the ballot.

The petitions/signatures for Pinal County candidates are due at the end of the month but you will not see my name at the primary election.  I will be running in this race as an “Independent” and will appear on the ballot for the general election on November 4, 2014.

I was registered as an Independent during the 2008 primary but was not given a ballot to vote for my presidential candidate of choice. After this experience, I chose to become a Democrat.

My husband of 25 years is a registered Republican, my two adult children are registered Democrats and my family and friends are a well balanced mix of Republicans, Democrats and Independents.  I am an individual and there is no way my views are exactly 100 percent party aligned and I am also tired of partisan politics. For this reason, I chose to become an Independent once more.

There is a large and growing population throughout the city, state and country that are disenchanted by the two primary parties and they too are choosing to become Independents.  Once all the political advertisements and attacks hit the airwaves in full force, many individuals will have a tendency to tune out and become “independent” before casting their votes.
