Holiday Homes on Parade winners announced

This year 19 homes competed in the third annual Holiday Homes on Parade, sponsored by Wells Fargo, for top honors in five categories: Best on Parade, Most Creative, Best Theme, Best Light Show, Best Use of Color and Resident’s Choice.

The winners are:
· Best on Parade: The Smarik Family, 45154 West Yucca Lane (Alterra), and the Smith Family, 45168 West Yucca Lane (Alterra)
· Best Light Show: The Kevin and Roxanna Ormrod Family, 21919 North Balboa Drive (Rancho El Dorado)
· Most Creative: The Rich and Linda Huggins Family, 44267 West Cypress Lane (Desert Cedars)
· Best Theme: The Michael Hinchee Family, 22020 North Reis Drive (Rancho El Dorado)
· Best Use of Color: The Nathan and Spice Lussier Family, 42426 West Sparks Drive (Rancho El Dorado)

When the final votes were tabulated In the Resident’s Choice category Michael Hinchee’s hand-made Disney theme took home top honors. Placing second were Chris and Natalie Weeks, with the Smarik and Smith houses tied for third.

All registered participants competed for gift cards to Ace Hardware. Winners, with the exception of Best on Parade, received a $300 gift card. Best on Parade received a $500 gift card.

“The purpose of this event is to create community, and with the holiday season in full swing we saw some extremely creative displays,” Parks, Recreation and Library Director Marty McDonald commented. “The festive spirit that this contest evokes is wonderful. Plans are already under way for the 2008 event. Next year, we are creating a Hall of Fame Division for past winners to compete against each other to encourage greater participation.”

“It was a wonderful to witness the creativity of the community,” Mayor Kelly Anderson commented.

“I’m stunned by the sheer beauty of the lights and Christmas spirit that is floating around our wonderful town,” Councilman Edward Farrell stated after he toured the lights with his wife Lori.
