The Maricopa City Council approved a contract Tuesday not to exceed $111,588 to AJP Electric for construction of a traffic signal at the intersection of Honeycutt Road and Glennwilde Drive.

The back entrance to Province is across Honeycutt from Glennwilde Drive.

The city has no record of complaints about the intersection, but delays at the intersection have increased since 2007, said Chris Salas, transportation manager for the city.

The light is expected to be up and working within 90 days, Salas said. And, he added, another light is in the works at Bowlin Road and Regent Drive near Legacy Traditional School with plans to be operational by the start of the next school year.

The city’s policy is to start the design of a traffic signal once a warrant is met from the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices, Salas said. After the design is done, the project is constructed in the following fiscal year.
