Inaugural golf tourney to support local food bank

Local golfers have the opportunity to yell ‘fore’ for the F.O.R. Maricopa food bank on Saturday, May 9, at The Duke.

This first-time event will not only raise funds to help stock the food bank’s shelves during the summer months and purchase a refrigerated truck, but it will also commemorate F.O.R. Maricopa’s second year of existence in the community.

The tourney is scheduled to become one of two annual fundraisers for the food bank with the other one being the Grape Escapes wine tasting held in the fall.

Wal-Mart is the major tournament sponsor, and the luncheon sponsor is Volkswagen. Platinum sponsors include: H&N Landscaping, Harrah’s Ak-Chin Resort Casino, El Paso Natural Gas and Fitzgibbons Law Office, P.L.C. Gold sponsors are Waste Management and El Dorado Holdings. Six hole sponsorships are reserved with four still available.

The entry fee of $100 per player includes a round of golf with cart, lunch, a goody bag, golf games, a poker hand for a chance to win a Las Vegas weekend (via Suz’s Cruises) sponsored by H&N Landscaping, a raffle ticket for a 46-inch LCD television sponsored by El Paso Natural Gas and a shot at a hole-in-one prize of a new VW.

“This is going to be a fun and action-filled tournament,” said food bank board member Nancy Smith.
